Diablo 1 menu fix?

Can this code be adapted to fix the missing (blacked out) menus in Diablo 1?

I highly suspect... the menu issues with d1 are cause by the same issue. unfortunately, I was not able to get this project working quite right so I stopped development.

have you tried https://sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/ or https://github.com/narzoul/DDrawCompat ?

I get a page fault with DDrawCompat, and while the game works with dxwnd, the same issue appears. I tried playing around with the many settings of dxwnd but none had any effect. Maybe you have a better idea of which config settings to enable?

By the way I'm interested in this because I want to play the great TheHell mod which is still being developped.
