Import limits despite "Successfully imported" message

Previously, I had taken used usticker to import something in the neighborhood of 800-900 stickers, and it had been working fine.

Recently, however, all the imported stickers had disappeared. I would go back to the usticker program and select import, get a message that it had "successfully imported 812 [or however many] stickers", and then still nothing on Gboard.

I tried to troubleshoot by just importing a single directory of stickers, which worked. I tried a directory with a couple subdirectories, which seemed to work. I would keep adding more subdirectories and checking, and it would behave up until approximately 400 stickers, at which point it would still give me the "imported successfully" message but go back to not showing any imported stickers.

I know it's a lot of stickers but it still seems very strange that it went backwards from working with nearly 1000 to only working with less than 400--but not giving me an error when it can't handle it.

This is unfortunately one of the known Gboard bugs that I haven't been able to root cause :-( Gboard does some super aggressive caching and it will sometimes just flat out refuse to recognize new stickers that aren't cached for some reason. If uSticker says that it successfully imported X stickers, it's trying its hardest already, and any issues that come up are out of our control.

Typical workarounds include: renaming sticker folder/files, rebooting device (and giving it a few minutes afterwards to re-index), clearing Gboard cache, and (as a last resort, since it resets keyboard settings) clearing Gboard data. No idea if any of these actually do anything, but I've found that eventually the stickers start working again. Why? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
