network printer shows up twice with hostname & full domainname

This is a minor annoyance but why does my shared network printer, on a different computer, show up twice? Once with just the hostname, and once with hostname_domainname. The second one always works right and remembers my settings. The first entry seems to not work sometimes. This is using pretty much any application like firefox or kwrite.
