Cannot saved Desired Capabilities in Inspector
The problem
When I click 'Save as..' on the appium inspector after entering all of my desired capabilities, I enter a name and click ok on the pop up, but nothing is actually saved. The Saved Capabilities tab remains grayed out and unclickable. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, tried another version of appium (started on 1.20.1 and then switched to 1.20.2.4 in case it was an issue with that specific ver). I had to replace my macbook pro and I never had this issue on my old mac ( ver1.20.1), but it has never worked on my new mac.

Are you using the correct inspector? The inspector is now at https://github.com/appium/appium-inspector
I am using the version of appium that has a built in inspector. I have the newest version of appium and the separate inspector also installed, but they lock up terribly on IOS to a degree that makes them completely unusable, so I use the older version of appium 4.20.1 that has the appium inspector built in.

you can use the new standalone inspector with any version of appium. that's the only version of the inspector which we are working on anymore in any case so it's a moot point if you're not going to use that one.
