Self hosted future?

Open vagari opened this issue 6 years ago • 6 comments

We've been running a self-hosted version of freegeoip for years (ever since the public service started having uptime issues). What's happening to that? Everything I'm reading on here revolves around the public API/service being replaced with a freemium model. =/

Hmmm. Ditto, Time to learn golang. Don't like deviation into buy this API - will not be going there. Need to keep control public not through some hidden 3rd party code (potentially up to no good) Keep it Open Source!

Bad Move AFAIC :(

Why move from a repo to another just to be discontinued again?

In-house control, means fully supported and "free" from extending in unwanted directions not wanted.

Use the fiorix/freegeoip docker image. Works like a charm.

So what's the plan for self-hosters now that Maxmind has discontinued GeoIP1 databases?

Pretty sure this used GeoLite2 which is still available? On Apr 1, 2019, 4:22 AM -0400, haarp [email protected], wrote:
