Hi, thank you @hoslo for working on this. I feel like there's no real demand for this at the moment. At the same time, implementing concurrent reads on the blocking side would require us to depend on Rayon, which I'm also unsure about. We can't merge this PR, but it's also not fair to leave it open indefinitely.

Let's close it for now. Sorry about that.
