[BUG] Gatekeeper blocks downloaded files, required manual override for every file

Open holymio opened this issue 5 months ago • 5 comments

Configuration

  • Keka version: 1.5.2
  • macOS version: 15.5

Describe the bug

Trying to extract downloaded rar files via "Right-Click -> Open with -> Keka" is not working. MacOS Sequoia Gatekeeper blocks extracting the file. Extracting is still possible, in MacOS Security Settings the last file that I tried to open is now listed there and a button labeled "Allow anyway" extracts this file.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. RIght-Click on a downloaded rar file
  2. Open with -> Keka
  3. See "Move to bin" DIalog
  4. Open Security Settings of MacOs
  5. See "Allow anyway" entry

Expected behavior

The rar file should be extracted without the need of interacting with the MacOS Settings.

@holymio can you share the files you’re trying to open? What method did you used to download them? If using a browser, what browser?

Same for me - other third party options (The Unarchiver), doesn't get flagged. I have a virtual tour app that creates an app as a standalone export but the resulting app is showing as Gatekeeper notarized regardless of extraction utility used but I only have troubles with Keka expansion.

@PLAE-Vertical are those other third party apps sandboxed like Keka is?

@aonez Ah no it's not. Notarized, hardened and Gatekeeper certified but not sandboxed.

I'm seeing the same issue. Keka 1.5.2, MacOS 15.6.1. Trying to open downloaded zip files containing purchased PDFs. "Right click -> Open with -> Keka" fails with the security message, but "Right click -> Keka -> Extract here" works.
