Extension doesn't take keyboard input as soon as it is triggered

I trigger the extension using a keyboard shortcut. As soon as I press the shortcut, I start typing. But, the input is not taken during this time. The input typed after the popup shows up is only registered. Is it possible to store the keyboard input while the popup loads and insert the already entered input into the search bar as soon as it opens.
