Should we consider the repo dead? \\ UPDATE: NO!
I came across your repo thanks to https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1itw4w0/can_folks_here_help_out_with_turning_this_repo/ and this makes me raise the question if this repo should be treated as effectively abandoned.
This is not meant to be a criticism on you Antonmedv, open-source is by it's very nature a volunteer based activity, and as such you can't be expected to keep every project you create up to date.
If this project isn't abandoned, and assuming you aren't looking to monetise this repo, I suggest the following to help engagement, since it seems people do enjoy using your tool and want to see it evolve:
- Include a license, I do see as per https://github.com/antonmedv/numbr/issues/23 you said you weren't sure which, and I'd say pick one of these https://opensource.org/licenses?categories=popular-strong-community and you are done :)
- Release the UI code, you said you were polishing it in https://github.com/antonmedv/numbr/issues/22, people are enjoying the application, release it as it and the community will hopefully clean it up.
- Add instructions on how to build and run the app in your local for dev purposes, or even better just include a
runscript in your package.json if you don't want to go through the hassle of updating your README
That's about it, as if you do that stuff I can't see allot of reasons why people can't help you keep this thing going, or even extend it into other applications (though admittedly that might need to separate the rendering code from the parsing for the purposes of integrating with something like VS Code or Obsidian but the community can help).
Hope this helps to motivate you to push out those few changes
Hi,
This project is not dead) Yes, I got a little bit bored with it for now. But I'm planning to return to it at one point. As you can see, I have a LOT of OSSs. I do return to each of them from time to time and to a big refactoring and release a new version.
What I was thinking is how I can make some money out of this project. This for sure will boost my interest in developing it more.
@antonmedv I recognise you have have allot of OSS projects and even said that :) and I did also say if I worked off the assumption you weren't going to monetise it then provided actions to help relieve the sole responsibility you hold to maintain it.
Thank you for providing the insight you wish to monetise as that I think is important to help people understand what would help drive this project to be worked on
