Add an option to dim the screen after a specified time of inactivity

Open supercrab opened this issue 3 years ago • 3 comments

I had an idea. This might be useful for those who want the clock displayed permanently but want to maintain their OLED life.

After a specified amount of inactivity the screen could dim to it's lowest value. When activity is detected the screen brightness goes back to normal.

It could be an option; after x mins of inactivity: blank screen OR dim screen to lowest value (contrast 0).

Technical: the set contrast/brightness level can be called at anytime. However, I've found in order for set contrast to have any effect then the vcomh deselect level must be set to 0 during initialization of the screen.

I committed my experiments (added some new commands to test different settings) to my fork of mpd_oled if anyone is interested

Hi Mase

I seem to have ignored this issue. Thanks for sharing your changes!

The current version of mpd_oled is now in maintenance mode, but I'll leave the issue open for people who want to use your changes, and it should be easier to add the feature with the new driver code (when I can look at this again).

Adrian.

You’re welcome! There were 3 possible settings that can affect the brightness and depending on what screen you have, each can has a slight different effect. 😃
