[BUG] Uninterruptible "high speed scrolling" went from barely reproducible to happening ALL THE TIME

    • [√] Anthropic API
    • [ ] AWS Bedrock
    • [ ] Google Vertex AI

  • Claude CLI version: 1.0.33 (Claude Code)
  • Operating System: macOS 15.3
  • Terminal: IntelJIdea

Bug Description

When I reported this a month ago, it was "barely reproducible", and I thought it was serious - like P0 serious - so I reported it.

Today? It is happening ALL the time. The LONGER the context gets, the MORE it happens.

Since this bug is 100% reproducible, I would hope someone is assigned to look at it. Ten people piled on my original bug report saying "Me too!"

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Use Claude Code
  2. That's it. That's the steps to reproduce it.

Expected Behavior

The terminal to remain well behaved and consistent

Actual Behavior

The terminal runs loose and cannot be stopped. Work is lost. WORK IS LOST. DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT A "P0-DATA LOSS" bug is?

Additional Context

Canceled my Anthropic Max subscription today.

Hi, I'm just a regular guy (not an Anthropic employee or a maintainer), but I found a workaround for this issue on macOS (not sure about other operating systems): press Ctrl+R once, wait for the expanded context, then press Ctrl+R again. This usually works like kicking a rusty generator and helps it function properly for a while. Update: for this to work, your claude code needs to be in an inert, not currently doing anything, state.

@mr-ryan-james Thanks for this. I've been plagued by this bug for a couple weeks now. I've tried selecting another open terminal, resizing the height and width, grabbing the scroll bar. I had not tried Ctrl+R to expand. Interesting. Does that seem to work regardless of the length of the terminal chat? Some of my sessions can get pretty lengthy.

I'm also experiencing this, I eventually get large terminal scroll / terminal bugging out every time I send a new query and claude code is thinking / working.

This doesn't happen in new sessions for me, only after some time working with claude code (after enough length / context has been accumulated).

Experiencing this on the latest version of claude code + iTerm.

(Ctrl + R workaround unfortunately didn't work for me, still get the scrolling)

Similar things exist for gemini cli.
