HEVC (H.265) support of Google Chrome should be tested
This is also related to this issue #3076
hi, @yashtandon113 , thanks for the link. I tested H.265 playback on Chrome desktop and chrome mobile browsers, I was able to play smoothly mpeg dash live streams without issues on different devices. I used even a 4-5 years old Samsung A3(2017) phone and I can confirm playback works fine. So decoding is there for sure. Regarding encoding it may not be widely supported and it's not. BUT the key is to be able to deliver at least H.265 video with audio (opus) for efficiency. This would be a huge step forward. Thank you!
I appreciate your feedforward and comments. Thank you @biviel
hi, @mekya , is there any update about this? You estimated before end of January for h.265 playback in browser (chrome), any new information or estimate to share?
Thanks in advance!
BR
Hi @biviel, Thank you for follow up
We've almost finished the WebRTC stack update to m108. So the next task is supporting the stereo input and then h265.
I think at the end of this month we may have something.
hi, any update on this? Thanks!
thank you for follow up @biviel
Unfortunately, there is no update. Some high-priority tasks are intervened to work on these issues.
Hi @mekya, is there any update?
Hi @shhhhhh16,
There is no update for this one. We're proceeding about the order there. So we're working automated load test to make sure everthing is working well.
Btw, new webrtc stack is available in 2.7.0+
Cheers
Hi @mekya, is there any update ?
Hi @sinyorre, We don't have a new update for this if you are asking for WebRTC. For other protocols like HLS, HEVC is supported if you use a compatible player. Currently we are working on adding AV1 support to WebRTC streams.
thanks for the answer @burak-58 , I think Chrome has made improvements to play HEVC videos over WebRTC in version 136. I wonder if I can play HEVC videos on Ant Media when I use Chrome and WebRTC ?
