Github Copilot burns premium quota for non-premium models

Open antoine-js opened this issue 1 week ago • 3 comments

Description

It started with a recent update of opencode. But now for example if I use GPT 4.1 which is a not a premium model of Copilot, it will consume my premium requests.

I did not try all versions but rolling back to opencode 1.0.200 fixes it.

This is pretty bad because people might consume their Copilot subscription super fast this month without realizing maybe.

This issue might be a duplicate of existing issues. Please check:

  • #6802: [BUG] Default small_model charges users when free alternative exists on Copilot (very similar issue describing the same problem with premium quota being used for non-premium models)
  • #768: Github Copilot: Tracking Premium Requests (related to quota tracking)
  • #1175: GitHub copilot premium calculation (related to how premium requests are counted)

Feel free to ignore if none of these address your specific case.
