Ubuntu launcher quicklist

Open ghost opened this issue 8 years ago • 10 comments

Hi anmoljagetia,

First of all, amazing work! Your theme is by far the best one I have tried, makes Ubuntu look stunning. The theme looks pretty complete with a small exception - the launcher quicklist menus.

Would it be possible to modify them so they match the color and design of the menus in normal application windows? It seems the last thing to make Flatabulous cover the whole UI. A simple dark color menu would suffice so hopefully it wouldn't be difficult.

Thanks in advance, please keep up the good work.

Can you point me to a theme that already does that?

Indeed, that would be nice. But sadly even googleing for a while gave no results, so I think this is not that easy. But while theming the Launcher is partly possible, I would bet that there's at least a dirty hack for this!

Looks like something you can't change for me. Probably it's being rendered directly by Unity (those blurry pop-ups, you know..)

At least I have never seen a theme that changes this thing. Trust me, I've seen a lot of them :)

@Defman21 Exactly. I have neither. I have been looking to do this since almost forever. Let's see if they roll it out in the new release anytime soon!

@anmoljagetia @Defman21

What I've found so far:

/usr/share/unity/icons
/usr/share/unity/themes

In these directories, there are some Unity-related images. For testing purposes, I've overdrawn some with Gimp and restarted Unity by typing unity into a terminal, and changes were visible!

I don't know what all the images are for exactly, they're poorly named. But at least the Dash border, which looks ugly IMHO, is based on these files. If somebody can see what the other files are for, just comment!

To edit some files, do gksu nautilus and navigate to the directories. Does somebody know how to override these in the Flatabulous theme?

Apologies for late reply - unfortunately I also don't know any way of changing it in Ubutnu. It seems to be easy in Gnome so I thought it would be possible in Unity as well.

In any case it would make for a very consistent experience if anyone will figure it out!

@JLCCI @linusg Thanks for the input. There have been multiple issues for this, and to be honest, it also did bother me, but I haven't yet seen any theme, that can do this. I would love to have it, but I think, I'll have to look at some samples to see, how to implement this.

@anmoljagetia @Defman21 @JLCCI - Unity 8 is on the way, has anyone tested it yet? I tried (no success, can't login), but it looks somewhat different to 7, according to images in the web. Maybe they've made some parts of the desktop more theme-friendly...

I do not use unity/ubuntu anymore. Nor Unity 8 worked for me :) (same problem - can't login)

@Defman21 Alright, let's see if that gets fixed and wait for some response of the others.
