after not opening the app since about may, and just dismissing the notification to do my study i went back to start today and now I've been getting this error too. android 15 pixel 7 ankidroid version 2.22.3
Marking as good first issue for triage as a start. No idea how hard it will be to implement but simply reproducing it is a vital and hopefully attainable start
I updated to android 16 and its no longer occurring
@mikehardy can I work on this
Have the same exact issue. AnkiDroid v2.22.3, Oneplus 9 Pro (256gigs, idk if this info is any helpful but oh well) Android 14
@david-allison
Potential Fix Areas:

Have you done this?
I'm on holiday. You are the majority of my notifications and I don't see why you need to ping here.
Got the same problem, i'm using my Android 14 tablet.
Edit: Ahhh, just need to reinstall the AnkiDroid and restart my tablet, now it works like usual
In my case: AnkiDroid v2.22.3, Google Pixel 5, Android 14
Did not have to reinstall, purging app cache (no need to purge all app data) resolved the issue.
If we could get someone else to confirm it resolves the issue, purging the cache would be a viable fix

I currently have the issue again, tried deleting the app cache but to absolutely no avail. Still tells me that anki is doing a backup
I have the same issue, tried to clear cache and uninstall and re-install. Have a Galaxy s25, Android 8.0
You're running a Galaxy S25 on Android 8.0?
That's almost certainly not possible unless you have a bootleg phone. Are you certain?
'kay so I also have this issue on my tablet now as well (Samsung Galaxy Tab S9), deleting the 500mb cache didn't do anything (just like how it didn't do anything on my phone), Anki v2.22.3 running everything on Android 16
Edit: just wanna ask if the reason for these error messages is already found or not
If we knew what the cause was, we'd quickly put a fix in place
I don't know if it's causally related but iirc when it was past midnight, that issue went away (at least on my phone), it'll be past midnight in roughly 3 hours and 20 minutes, I'll keep you all up to date (GMT+1)
Okay, this has been going on for a while now and we haven't got a reproduction case yet.
