  • We should move 'Display Order' to a chip similar to the below
  • We should persist different orders for 'Cards' and 'Notes' mode
  • We need to figure out the UX for tapping on the columns, likely:
    • A tap sorts
    • A long press allows a user to edit and sort the columns

Note that in 'Notes' mode, a number of columns are not sortable

I would suggest something like this? That way we can also handle the easy changing of sort directions and handle multiple sorts in order.

What about users who want to sort on a field which isn't currently displayed (is this a valid concern?)

Yes, this would be an issue. I sort my cards in descending order of modification time, but I don't want to show the modification time in the UI as it takes up screen space without any benefit.

I too use created time, but I don't want it shown.

From the forums: Sort by FSRS metrics in browser.
