ui-date and custom datepicker markup

I'm trying to use custom markup for my date picker (jsFiddle) via my own custom directive. However, the ui-date datepicker doesn't seem to be maintaining a link to the same scope. Not sure what I'm doing wrong? Any advice would be appreciated!
