Not able to see notifications on xfce

Open Mmanish7 opened this issue 1 month ago • 4 comments

Current Behavior

I previously installed kdeconnect and i removed it completely, including cache and config folders.

I installed valent from flatpak, and turns out that the phone notiifications or call/sms notifications and ping dont show up on my xfce panel.

Phone and computer are both connected, and I'm able to ping my phone using valent on desktop, but not the other way around, though ringing my desktop from phone works, but doesn't show notification.

Idk how to troubleshoot this

Hi, can you clarify what you mean by "dont show up on my xfce panel"?

Valent has no panel plugin, it just sends notifications to the notification server (e.g. https://specifications.freedesktop.org/notification/).

Valent has no panel plugin, it just sends notifications to the notification server (e.g. https://specifications.freedesktop.org/notification/).

I mean the notifications of incoming calls, sms, phone notifications etc not showing up in my desktop notifications on my xfce panel. I enabled everything on both phone and desktop apps and unblocked kdeconnect from firewalld.

Are there any errors in your logs indicating what might have gone wrong?

No, there was no errors reported. My phone was able to connect with desktop.

However I changed my desktop environment to kde plasma. When I'll try with xfce again, ill test it once again and report back with results. Maybe it was a one time thing idk

Thanks for your reply and much love for your project, we need more people like you making kdeconnect accessible across all desktop environments.

@andyholmes I have installed xfce on opensuse tumbleweed, and installed valent to test and turns out that the notification bug I had may have been a one-off thing or something wrong from my end.

It's working fine for now, hence I'm closing the issue

@andyholmes I'm having the same issue again after a few days, I tried everything from reinstalling, removing everything valent related etc.

Edit: To be specific, after distrohopping to arch based, I get this issue. It was working fine on opensuse tumbleweed

Hi, you'll still need to gets logs from e.g. journalctl so the issue can be diagnosed.

Thanks for reply, just plain journalctl or the specific one?

Which command to type in to show the relevant messages you need to troubleshoot?

To add on, idk how my desktop notifications of valent works fine on tumbleweed but not on cachyos or endeavouros, should I install any additional package?
