could the link be opened in new page?

when I click on a icon (not individual), the link always be opened in the current page. Could it be opened in new (background) page?

I have a similar problem. Despite the fact that addon there has special settings item. All links always open in the current active tab.

It'll open in a new tab by middle click the icon. Trouble is it doesn't yet switch to that tab. Dev tells me he'll try to get focus on the new tab in another release.

Middle click is hard to use. Would it be possible to give it a setting option making all links opened in new background tabs (i.e. open in a new tab and do not switch to it) with left click?

Firefox version.
