Geofence transition not triggered with GPS only location

Guys I have created one auto detection of location app. It is working good when I turn on location service with HIGH ACCURACY location mode.
But whenever I switch that to DEVICE ONLY to get the location updates from GPS it won't trigger any event for geofence transition. I just want to know is it necessary to on NETWORK LOCATION PROVIDER to get the geofence triggering events. Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.
