wad is a new dependency

wad needs to be packaged for Kali, the original package at pypi is: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/wad/0.2.0

Readme of w3af-kali says to contact Kali developers if package is not available yet, should I do it?

You can contact them and ask for wad to be packaged for Kali, yes, but since I'm actively working on a new Kali release (https://github.com/andresriancho/w3af/issues/10821) the application fingerprint (wad) plugin for w3af won't make it to this release.

The other option you've got is to wait ~1 month (then I'll want to release a new kali version, the wad PR will be long merged into master) and I'll have to ask the Kali developers to package wad in order for w3af to work.

I don't have any personal preference, we can go either way

Alright then, I'll wait that one month, since WAD was released to public only recently, it might be better to give it some time for bugfixes if any issues are filed etc.

Sounds good!
