Bookmarkdup doesn't detect duplication when urls differ by last "/"
Let say I have 2 bookmarks: one has URL https://github.com/anderslindmark/bookmarkdup/issues/new and other - https://github.com/anderslindmark/bookmarkdup/issues/new/ These 2 urls have difference (the last one has additional "/"), but in fact they always will load the same page. Is it possible to detect such bookmarks as duplicate? Thank you
This is possible to do, and also how it should be done really. I will look into changing this for the next update of the plugin. Thank you for reporting the problem.
Thanks for your extension Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner which is very useful.
I don't know if this program is still alive and developed, if yes I'd like to complete the issue and suggest you another feature which would help a lot : in addition to duplicates detection, why not add an option to detect "similar" bookmarks ?
I explain : I have more than 10.000 bookmarks, a lot of them still to sort, and sometimes I have some duplicates which do not have exactly the same URL but are the same page, and not detected by the extension ; so Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner could also verify :
- Bookmarks similar with https SSL encryption : http://www.xxxxx.com https://www.xxxxx.com
- Bookmarks similar with or without www or ww2... : http://www.xxxxx.com http://ww2.xxxxx.com http://xxxxx.com
- Bookmarks with sub-domain (other characters before main domain), with or without www : http://www.yyy.xxxxx.com http://yyy.xxxxx.com http://xxxxx.com
- Bookmarks similar with or without / at the end (as suggested by difabor) : http://www.xxxxx.com http://www.xxxxx.com/
- Bookmarks similar with same domain but different addresses : http://www.xxxxx.com http://www.xxxxx.com/index.html http://www.xxxxx.com/article1.htm http://www.xxxxx.com/forum.php/p=1&sid=zzzzzzzzzzz
Results could be displayed in addition to Duplicates in a "Similar" tab or window on the right, with same possibility to compare and suppress one of them - because sometimes I want to have main page of a site and a sub-page as two separate bookmarks, and sometimes not : it's just a duplicate.
Is it an idea which seems you interesting ? I'd like to help but don't know any programming, I tried to look on the source code without understanding how to add this...
Thanks in advance. Best regards,
Xavier
Installed Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner 0.2 in FF 29.0.1. Where do I find the program to run it?
Under the bookmarks menu, Bookmarks -> "Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner"

Just moving back to FF after a couple of years with Chrome. FF version 29.0.1 currently installed. I have an icon left of URL address field to show bookmarks or display a sidebar... don't see "Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner". More help please.
You can access the menu-toolbar by pressing Alt on your keyboard, if you are using OS X it will be shown automatically. You can also access the bookmark-menu directly by clicking on the little icon to the right of the star-icon, it looks like a small notepad of some description. (So to the right of the address field, the search box and the home icon is the star-icon, and connected to that is this notepad icon). Clicking that icon and then "Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner" will also start the addon.

Understand. Bookmark Duplicate Cleaner is not there. Is this a Mac only app?

That's very odd. No, it's not a mac only app, I tested with Firefox 29.0.1 on both mac and windows and it was at that location on both versions. Is it listed under your installed add-ons, and not marked as disabled? Maybe if you try removing it and installing it again from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bookmark-duplicate-cleaner/

OK, mystery solved.
I had another dupe remover 'add-on' loaded that I did not like so I removed it, but it was still listed and I was looking at that. Your BDC was down the list and turned off. Just ran it and it found no dupes. I suspect the other program removed the dupes... I just did not like the program has well as yours.
So, all is well. Have a good day.
