Scopy : Scopy-v2.0.0-Windows-portable crashes after startup calibration stage

Open msmith916 opened this issue 7 months ago • 2 comments

Environment:

  • OS: Windows 10 Enterprise (ADI Employee Machine)
  • FW Version : V0.25
  • SW Version or git tag : Scopy version 2.0.0-b3d077f6

Describe the bug Using on my ADI Employee Windows 10 Machine. I start Scopy. It identifies my ADALM2000. I select it and click "Connect". I see the instruments (Oscilloscope, Spectrum analyzer, Network Analyzer etc) display Calibrating. As soon as calibration appears to be completed, the application just shuts down and closes. No errors are displayed. I see that my Scopy.ini and Scopy.ini.bak files are blank and display file sizes of 0KB each.

I found a temporary way to work around this. At startup before selecting "connect", I can click "preferences" in Scopy and scroll down to Reset settings to default. When I do this, Scopy will restart and run properly. However, this does not permanently fix the problem as the next time I startup Scopy, it shuts down just as mentioned above. In order to run the program, I have to select preferences and RESET each time I start the program. This will be problematic if I try to setup preference different from default.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Double Click the Windows Portable Scopy v2.0.0 Scopy.exe file.
  2. Once it identifies the M2K, click it and then select Connect.
  3. Calibrating will show up on the instrument list on the left and then the program just shuts down.
  4. No Error message is displayed.

Repeat above, but this time insert a step between 1 and 2. Select Preferences and then RESET within the preferences menu. Allow the restart that comes with the RESET and continue on with step 2. This time, the program starts and calibration completes properly.

Expected behavior When working properly, the calibration finishes and the instrument list no longer says Calibrating. The instruments within scopy can now be used normally.

Screenshots No screenshots available as everything is normal right up until it just shuts down the program.

Additional context

I am an Analog Devices Employee and I'm using my ADI laptop. Because the RESET preferences allows it to startup properly, I'm wondering if there is a security issue on the machine that prevents proper operation without the preference / reset work around.

My Scopy.ini and Scopy.ini.bak files are both blank with 0KB of data. I opened them and see a blank screen. There are no recent files in the crashdmp directory. My Scopy.ini and bak files show modified dates of 5/15/2025. I think I was using an older installed version (1.41) of Scopy at that time. I uninstalled that version when switching to V2.0.0 portable. Perhaps this is related to having an older version previously installed?

Hi, Can you try to update the FW Version to v0.33 ?

Hello, Thanks for the suggestion.  Moving to FW v0.33 appears to have fixed the issue. Matt
