CLI: arrow keys and other inputs cause CLI to become unresponsive

When using the CLI pressing an arrow key or several other inputs cause the CLI to freeze up, requiring a reboot.

Since many people are accustomed to pressing UP and DOWN in CLIs to navigate history, it happens pretty often to me and others on my team, even when we try to remember not to do it.

Wish: make the CLI robust to unexpected inputs. In a perfect world UP and DOWN could be used to navigate recent history and TAB for completion, but I'd be pretty happy if it just didn't freeze up so often on input mistakes :)
