History: Relationship between SE and other kinds of engineering

When the article talks about Margaret Hamilton's contribution and leadership in the field of software engineering, it says that Margaret Hamilton's leadership established the software engineering field as a core part of systems engineering. I think it will be better the Arthur could explain more about the term "systems engineering". What's the meaning of systems engineering? What's the background information about systems engineering? And I am a little bit confused about the relationship between systems engineering and software engineering. How software engineering becomes a core part of systems engineering? What's the intrinsic relationship between them?
