Follows after the work in #696. This replaces that PR.

@thvd, sorry for the late reply! Is there any way to create a Scratch Org and run end-to-end tests for this? I'm not sure how to handle pull requests without tests.

For example, I'm thinking about switching to Playwright eventually or doing some bigger refactoring. But without tests, I can't maintain this code confidently.

Ideally, there would be a plugin system to allow third-party npm packages for the sfdx-browserforce-plugin, but I haven't really thought that through yet.

I'm okay with merging it if you promise I can reach out to you for manual testing when I make bigger changes. What do you think?
