SCART Stereo Audio -- L/R reversed?
First, thanks to amoore2600 and everyone else who created the GBS-C AIO board and made it publicly available! So far, so good, though I've encountered one tiny issue, in that my left and right audio channels seem to be reversed somewhere between the SCART input and VGA->HDMI adapter.
I soldered the 3.5mm port to the bottom side of the AIO PCB, as shown in Step 10 of the Installation Guide. I'd simply solder it to the top side instead, but the D-sub connector up top blocks the 3.5mm jack.
Is this normal/known? If so, is there a convenient way to swap the L/R channels before piping the audio into the VGA->HDMI adapter? I'll see if I can pipe the audio into a headphone jack, rather than the VGA->HDMI adapter, to rule out the latter as the culprit.
Step 10 of this guide? You should be specific as there is no official guide produced.
Can you show us a photo of your board with the soldered jack? I feel if this was a known issue it would have come up a few more times, possibly with every GBS-C AIO produced since rev 1.3.
@biggestsonicfan thanks for the quick reply -- and yep, that guide! Sorry, I should've been more specific.
Below are pictures of the top and bottom side of the PCB, around the 3.5mm port. Let me know if it looks like I mangled something -- should be an easy fix, if I did. Still haven't ruled out the VGA->HDMI adapter.
I jumped the gun -- it's the HDMI adapter after all! Before I close this ticket and bury the evidence of my stupidity, can I ask which brand(s) folks are using?
Details: Plugged PC Engine Duo's 3.5mm headphone-out into the 3.5mm input of the HDMI adapter, and 240p Test Sute confirms that the L/R channels are getting switched.
For reference: it's a FOINNEX VGA to HDMI adapter, from RetroRGB's list of zero-lag converters.
That's odd, I use the Foinnex as well, perhaps it's just a faulty model, can you get it exchanged?
Aye, ordered a second one and will report back next weekend.
The second FOINNEX arrived early and I had time, so I tried it -- stereo channels are still reversed. I've tried different HDMI cables and different HDMI ports on the TV to no avail. No issues when I connect the console audio directly to the TV's stereo RCA jacks, either. I must be getting unlucky, and will try a third adapter.
If the third does it I will be very suspicious of any cables you use, specifically the audio cable...

Aaaand the third does! I've tried each of the the male-to-male 3.5mm cables, too. I s'pose I can try the 3.5mm cable that's in my car, though I'll also try hooking this up to a different TV -- it'd be weird if the issue lies between the TV and its HDMI ports, and the RCA stereo inputs are fine, but this is already weird.
Worst-case scenario, I'll just re-reverse the channels with a 3.5mm-to-RCA breakout, feeding into an RCA-to-3.5mm. It'll look clunky next to the sleek GBS-C-AIO, but if it works...
It's not the TV, at least. Will report back after testing audio from other consoles (waiting on an adapter -- made it to the local warehouse before getting lost...)
Any movement on this? You've left me hanging, @dandemonium
Thanks for the nudge, @biggestsonicfan, and sorry for the delay! Tried 3 FOINNEX ADCs and multiple 3.5mm cables, yet left and right stereo channels were flipped in all cases. Current solution is a 3.5mm-to-bare-wire cable and a 3.5mm breakout adapter with which I reverse the wiring.
Someone in a GBS-C/other-upscalers Facebook group had the same issue, so maybe there's been a revision of the FOINNEX ADC?
I actually only returned one of the ADCs, so if there's interest, then I could (try to...) open up one of the other two and see if the PCB reveals anything...
