Youtube did it again (Blocktube breaking.....again, ffs)
Current Browser: Firefox v134.0.2 (Stable, 64-Bit) Alt Browser: Microsoft Edge, Version 131.0.2903.112 (Official build) (64-bit) Blocktube Version 0.4.5 (for both browsers) uBlock Origin (dev channel, version 1.62.1b1)
At the time of this post, whether its because of old youtube cookies or whatever on my firefox browser, or WHATEVER youtube is pushing forward once more, i am seeing blocktube breaking once more. numerous times i had to reload youtube JUST to get the "block channel/video" buttons back, and even then they barely appeared while in "private/incognito" mode for either/or
youtube just REALLY likes messing with stuff they shouldn't be........ill clear all youtube cookies and whatnot from my current firefox browser, and re-test to see if its a fluke, but if it isnt..........take this as a bug report and whatnot
finished cleaning cache, cookies, etc....., gave it another go............nah, youtube broke blocktube, again, not getting any different results no matter how many times i hard refresh
Edit: oh...........wait. its only partially broken. the "Block Channel/Video" button(s) for the side-list of videos is broken, along with some partial block filter break-age (any block rules set for subscribed videos still holds up, for now), but i can still use the buttons when checking my subscriptions list, on any random video currently playing, and so on
This is basically Alphabet as a whole the past couple years lol >.<: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CduA0TULnow
its odd really. i have the addon enabled in "private mode"/incognito mode, just to test it out, and sometimes, MOST of the times.......it works, because i see the youtube channel names under the videos list side bar turn orange, filter system and all. But on NON-incognito mode? seemingly no dice, no matter how much i hard refresh or clear cache. and back then, when i said i tested it, i not only signed out of youtube/google normally, i not only went into firefox "privacy & security" section, i not only clicked on manage data, looked up all youtube/google cookies and deleted them, but i also used CCleaner to see if i missed any and deleted those cookies as well
you THINK that would've, sort of, fixed it somehow? but nope, in normie browser mode, this addon refuses to function 100% correctly, either at half-mast, or limp as a noodle. .............ffs, i really wish youtube would stop breaking crap and just..........let us KEEP what we like, but then again, we clearly don't matter to them as individuals, and perhaps not even as a combined whole
Man, IDK.. Like, Im new to this extension, but it feels like the uptime on this is 1 week ish vs a month + until it updates and starts working again. IFL I have to find another extension that doesnt constantly just leave me hanging.
I can also add that the ability to filter out videos of a certain length is completely not working, and even using a similar extension called YTblock to do the same thing, also does not work
Throwing in my anecdote as well. Multiple errors of "video.title is undefined" in the console.
No custom filtering is working. I use title text and watch time filtering which seems completely broken.
This seems similar to what happened last time and things basically "fixed itself" because there were no updates pushed. #496

If it fixed itself that's because YouTube rolled out another update that changed it back or to something that worked. YouTube tends to roll back braindead updates like this pretty quickly in my experience. Not sure if it'll fix BlockTube though.
I've figured out a temporary solution. Download YTBlock, port your Blocktube lists over using Notepad++'s replace feature, use AI to modify the manifest.json to ONLY run on the homepage (because YTBlock is glacially slow), and then "load unpacked" YTBlock.
A lot of worth and idk how I'll keep both lists simultaneously in sync but it's still worth it imo. New homepage and algorithm is the worst I've seen out of YouTube in years.
Now everything works and not even the version has been updated. Magic
With blocktube enabled I cannot watch youtube videos at all, which is funny because I have Ublock Origin Dev Extension and YT works with that fine.
I LOVE BLOCKTUBE. I can instantly ignore blatant ads and channels that shill for major companies and whatnot. Makes Youtube soooo clean! But YT hates giving people choice and now I can't even say "do not recommend this channel" as my account is probably flagged in some weird way. If I log into a secondary account the extension immediately works! This secondary account is not tied to any payment or anything, so perhaps my main channel is not allowed to block any channels due to the monetization?

Yes, same issue for me on Firefox (didn't try on Chromium), YTBlock is slow and lagging like horse's sh.., the whole youtube page becomes laggy and unresponsive, also mentioned here by me and another user: https://github.com/amitbl/blocktube/issues/496#issuecomment-2672111592. I just tried it for an half of hour and went back to Blocktube.

It actually barely lags on the homepage for me with over 50k things blocked. It's when I click on a video that it becomes glacially slow so I just disabled it on all but the homepage. I'm on a pretty beefy computer though so I could just be brute forcing it lol.
FatheredPuma81 : It actually barely lags on the homepage for me with over 50k things blocked.
On the homepage it lags less, but still does lag for me, it can be noticed when scrolling page down, the new videos often apear delayed (like 1-2sec).
FatheredPuma81 : It's when I click on a video that it becomes glacially slow
Yes, on the video page it's terribly slow.
FatheredPuma81 : so I just disabled it on all but the homepage.
So now you have a partially broken and dysfunctional extension, it's like amputating a leg, but perhaps sometimes better than nothing of course.
FatheredPuma81 : I just disabled it
You hacked it, by messing with extension files, it's a dirty hack/workaround, not a solution for a most of typical novice/non tech savvy users. Although some of advanced users might try it of course.
i want to comment on this since i started this thread, but at the time of this current post, youtube must've undone whatever fuckery they implemented that broke my blocktube blocking & context menu issues, and it all works..........for now

I copied the manifest file into ChatGPT like it said and then copied what it gave me back and dragged the extension folder into my browser.... I wouldn't call that hacking or particularly advanced...

And now I wait a month or two until YouTube pushes the unbroken page to me then >.>

Tinkering with source codes and using external programming tools, is not an activity for a typical user.

And neither would converting your Blocktube list to a YTBlock list or even using Blocktube. If you can figure those out you probably have the problem solving skills to manage using AI just by knowing it's possible and by knowing the word/method "manifest.json" because AI sucks sometimes(often).
FatheredPuma81: or even using Blocktube
Adding a browser extension, and then clicking "Block video" from a video context menu seems acceptable and simple enough for a typical user to block an unwanted video, while other mentioned things might require more skills.
yesterday it worked fine, but today it doesn't work anymore. i don't have the block buttons when clicking on a video, and it also isn't blocking the videos from my side-bar anymore, which means the flood of clickbait content is hitting my side-bar & recommended videos really hard today... i hope the dev can do something
Doesn't work anymore. The menu filters are ignored like duration filtering, custom scripts are ignored etc.
From what I can see, almost all YouTube extensions are currently broken except the one that returns the thumbs down count.
well, at the time of this post, at least on MY end, i encountered two instances of this addon/extension working
With "Enhancer For Youtube" on, and the themes set to ubuntu purple, i got this
the orange lettering with the channel names means that, for me, the addon is working, as in i get the option to "Block Video/Channel" from the triple dot mini-menu
after a few refreshes, youtube must've undid whatever they fucked up, and all channel names are currently orange, meaning my blocklists are working. then again, with how wishy-washy the entire platform is, i'll keep my expectations low and not expect it to stay working forever
still, at the time of this post, for me at least, it temporarily is working right now
