Any working forks?

Anyone have a functioning fork that's compiled we can use while we wait for amitbl's resurrection?

As of now josephcrowell/blocktube is the only one that has any stars and it has no pre-compiled package. It was last updated over a month ago.

RenegageScooter: and it has no pre-compiled package

Yes, it does not anymore, but worth to mention that it had one before:

  • https://github.com/amitbl/blocktube/issues/455#issuecomment-2375609142 leads to a "Oops! We can’t find that page".

but it doesn't exist any more and mozilla amo page throws: "Oops! We can’t find that page"

An alternative/fork would be great

Until this gets fixed there is an alternate. I'm using YTBlock -Block Any Content From YouTube until this gets updated. I'm def planning on coming back to this when it's updated but until then YTBlock offers the same functionality as this and is working.

Doesn't work.

It's been working for me, have it installed on Brave and on Opera. Not having an issue on either. Been able to block things. I mean it doesn't get rid of the tabs the way Blocktube does, Blocktube def has better bells and whistles which is why I am coming back to it still when it gets updated.

Are you sure you didn't really have any issues with it or maybe you just didn't notice them? I mean YTBlock does work, but is unusable, as it's lagging like horse's shit, see: https://github.com/amitbl/blocktube/issues/496#issuecomment-2672111592

@garry-ut99 As you mentioned in the other repo you are using Firefox. @Fwanger is using Chromium based browser. Those 2 browsers have different architectures and work differently under the hood. This is (probably) the reason for you it is slow, and for him it works normally.

Another factor may be the number of blocked videos, as you mentioned you have 3000, and he did not mention any number.

Possible, but you shouldn't make blind assumptions if you are not sure, as I wouldn't be so sure that is's due to browser's fault, it still might be the addon's fault, or it might be youtube's fault as it's known to intentionally work bad on Firefox.

I also tried on Chromium and didn't notice lags, but the add-on didn't hide any videos, means it was not working properly for me, so I was unable to determine its performance, perhaps it could work on other chromium-based browser, but I use Firefox as my main browser, and not Chromium.

3000 definately is not a problem here, as it still lags even after removing all blocked videos from the list.
