Support for the Slovak language and localization of the app to Slovak
I wonder if it's possible to add support for the Slovak language so that it can scan all of our special characters (ĺ ľ š č ť ž ý á í é ú ä ô ó ň)?
If you accept contributions to translate TRex into more languages, I'd be happy to help make the app and app store description fully available in my native language.
Hi @Svec-Tomas,
For now TRex supports only languages that are bundled with macOS. Slovak is not on the list, unfortunately.
If I decide to implement #33, then Slovak (and many other languages) would be included.
@Svec-Tomas Please try the beta build. In Settings -> Tesseract you can Download and enable Slovak language
I just tried it now. Not sure if all on my side is setup correctly, but it looks like it does not work as it should for me.

Unfortunately, this is the best Tesseract can do at the moment. I'm using their bigger (best model).
I guess until Apple adds support for the Slovak language, this is the best option we have.
There were new languages added to macOS 26. One of them is Czech, which is very similar to Slovak. Any plans for TRex to support all those new languages?
Download the latest release (1.9.0); Czech is there (as are all the other new languages), but it doesn't seem to do a good job either.
I just tried the latest version 1.9.0 of TRex and I can confirm that it doesn’t recognize very well the special characters. However, what I can confirm is that the "Snajper" app, which added the new languages introduced in macOS 26, works quite well with Slovak. That is why I wanted to know if and when TRex will support the new languages added in macOS 26.
the "Snajper" app
which one is that? I'll take a look
TextSniper, I did not want to promote it here.
I played around with the settings a bit and got it to work much better. One of the things is that it's better to test it with actual words and sentences because the Apple Vision Framework is trained for that. And remember that the nature of this technology is probabilistic, meaning that everyone can potentially give you a different result, especially when you're not testing on a real sentence.
My test sentence:
Příliš žluťoučký kůň úpěl ďábelské ódy. Nechť již hříšné saxofony ďáblů rozzvučí síň úděsnými tóny waltzu, tanga a quickstepu.
@Svec-Tomas Let me know if you had a chance to try it. I want to release this, as it is important.
Sorry, for the late reply. I just gave it a test now and I can confirm, that it works much much better now!
