[Package Request] - msodbcsql18 - Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server

Open rgoltz opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

What package is missing from Amazon Linux 2023? Please describe and include package name.

It's Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server with package name:

msodbcsql18

Is this an update to existing package or new package request?

It's a new package.

Is this package available in Amazon Linux 2? If it is available via external sources such as EPEL, please specify.

Microsoft Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux (EPEL) You can find "msodbcsql18" in the list of EPEL: https://packages.microsoft.com/rhel/9/prod/Packages/m/ (msodbcsql18-18.4.1.1-1.x86_64.rpm). The corresponding repo is https://packages.microsoft.com/config/rhel/9/prod.repo (there is also /rhel/8/)

Microsoft Packages for Amazon Linux 2023 There is already a https://packages.microsoft.com/config/amazonlinux/2023/prod.repo but without msodbcsql18, following https://packages.microsoft.com/amazonlinux/2023/prod/Packages/m/

Any additional information you'd like to include. (use-cases, etc)

We are using an Amazon RDS for Microsoft SQL Server (currently the Major-Version called "SQL Server 2022", Minor-Version CU15 - Version example: 16.0.4150.1). We like to run a PHP application on AL2023, which using SQL Server RDS.

Once using AL2023 distribution it should ideally provide all essential packages and libraries through its official repositories, hence we would love to see to get msodbcsql18 from Amazon AL2023 repo.

@stewartsmith I hope you are well and sound. It's seems to me Microsoft side has not shipped any packages for AL2023. Just wondering if AWS side has any plan to package this software. Many thanks

We can try to engage with Microsoft but nothing beats you (customers) going straight to them and asking for that support

Can this package available in https://packages.microsoft.com/config/rhel/9/prod.repo be used for Amazon Linux 2023? Are they compatible?
