In my experience, and according to e.g. this post, flowlines are already considered and shown by WaterWayMap. Can you link to a place where this isn't the case?

Yes, WWM already supports =flowline. The default rules have a catch all “include anything with a waterway tag”, which automatically included =flowline. more details
