Is it possible to use waterwaymap as a custom background image in iD editor

It would be great to see the rivers and streams rendered by waterwaymap while adding additional waterways

Yes that would be a cool feature! But I don't think it's easily possible now. WWM.org uses vectortiles, and the map is rendered in your web browser. I think iD can only show from raster tiles.

It would be cool to render some raster tiles host them somewhere, which you could then load into iD. But that's not a small amount of work, and that will be a long way off, sorry. 🙂

For now, you can do what I do: Alt-Tab between your OSM editor and WWM.org 🤣🤣

You could use this WMS to get the location of the endings, loops, and invalid transitions: https://geoserver.osm.lat/geoserver/WaterwaysMap_workspace/wms?
