MAME 0.124: Missing Button Inputs?

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened this issue 9 years ago • 7 comments

Dear Alex,

Your Wjoy app basically saved MAME gaming on the Mac for me, so thank you for
all your work once again. Lately I've been trying to play some more graphically
intensive MAME games. Noticing that on occasion it was extremely laggy, I was
advised to downgrade to an older release of MAME OS X, v0.124 (current newest
release is 0.135). Various people have reported a significant speed improvement
on older Mac hardware with this older release, I have no idea why.

However, while downgrading has noticeably improved the performance for me,
unfortunately it seems there is a problem with the button inputs on Wjoy for
this older MAME version. While most things work as expected, v0.124 can't seem
to recognise the 'X', 'Y' and D-Pad 'Up' buttons. These three buttons are the
only ones that aren't recognised by MAME as far as I can tell.

I have tested this on both my Mac computers, one running Snow Leopard, and the
other running Lion. On both computers it's the same. I get no recognition on X,
Y and Up (on the D-Pad).

I wish I could offer more information, but I'm not experienced in app
development. However, I'm confident that if you download MAME OS X 0.124 the
problem should be apparent to you. Do you have any idea why this issue might
occur?

Any help you can give me is hugely appreciated. You're my arcade gaming saviour!

Thanks once again,

Hal.

Hello!

Yes, it's known (and fixed in later releases) bug of MAME for OS X. I think, i
can fix it in WJoy, and i will try do it later (in one or two days).

I builded WJoy.app with workaround of MAME OS X 0.124 bug :) Please, test it
(dmg in attachment), and if it doesn't run (i build it experementally with 10.8
SDK and xcode4), write about it here - i rebuild it with old SDK :)

All the best,

In 0.7 this workaround not preset. For old MAME OS X you need use only this
version of WJoy, sorry. Later i add preferences to WJoy (for mapping button to
keyboard, and emulate other controllers, and this completly solve all problems,
not only with old MAME :)).
