Wiimote will not connect

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Searching for wii remote, lights on remote will flash and bluetooth 
connection will try to establish but connection always fails

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Connect to mac. Failed connection to mac.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
7.1 on os x 10.9.5

Also downloaded Wii Remote Test and clicking the find remote button tries to 
find remote and ends discovery simultaneously.

Bluetooth connection asks for pairing code. How do I bypass this?
