Recently Starting SteamVR Crash

Description

SteamVR crashes soon after the headset connects, while it is connected I can't bring up the SteamVR menu but I can see the usual black SteamVR environment with the distant northern lights, and the controllers are also visible and tracked correctly.

I have been playing Skyrim VR with ALVR on my Quest 3 for the last few months and it's been working well. The version of ALVR has not changed recently: 20.14.0 on headset and 20.14.1 on computer. I also don't remember changing anything since it last worked, but SteamVR might have been updated recently.

Yep SteamVR+ALVR 20.14.1 is broken here too. SteamVR launches and displays message that important component of SteamVR is not working properly, in HMD there's no image displayed. I've tried to roll back to Steamvr 2.12.4 (previous stable) but it didn't help.

For this issue my guess is that SteamVR is crashing due to HAGS (Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling). HAGS generally increases VRAM usage which is normally the actual cause of stuttering/crashes in games (this includes non-VR games too btw, if any of you happen to have a lower VRAM GPU). Tho I believe there are other issues with SteamVR and HAGS as I get SteamVR crashes pretty often without any game (or other VRAM hungry process) open. While I do still get crashes it is much less often now that I've disabled HAGS.

Kinda sucks that ALVR relies on SteamVR which is buggy and adds latency due to being an "unneeded" layer in the pipeline. Also another thing to try when dealing with SteamVR issues, restart the PC.

Also AMD here, with integrated GPU. FYI I sold my quest in favour of the steam frame so I won't be able to test this for a while.
