Use steam link audio driver instead alvr dedicated virtual audio cable on windows
There is known requirement about ALVR to have virtual cable software to install. However why not just use steam link audio driver. For steam users steam link audio driver is often introduced one way or another inside windows. User either uses or used steam link protocol or having a side solutions like sunshine which also utilising steam link audio driver. If not, alvr could install driver as a part of the installation and introduce it into a system. Also it would seems logical to have a feature when ALVR releases audio to system previously installed audio sources after shutdown of ALVR or when client headset disconnects from streaming.
Do you have any documentation on how to use the SteamLink audio driver?
This issue specifically refers to using the Steam Link virtual audio driver, but ALVR implementing it's own audio would serve the same purpose. ~~VB-Cable~~ Virtual Audio Cable has been a point of difficulty for myself when I first started and others I've recommended ALVR to.
ALVR implementing and managing it's own audio similar to how Virtual Desktop and, yes, Steam Link do would significantly simplify the setup. ALVR doesn't necessarily have to use an existing audio driver like Steam Link's, it could implement it's own. I realize that's easier said than done though.
ALVR will never implement their own Windows audio driver because it requires singing with a certificate that only microsoft can provide and it costs a lot of money
