Samsung XR Support?
This is my first time using ALVR, so not sure if it's a "me" issue or an incompatibility issue. I was able to get the Linux desktop side installed and up and running fine, but when I launch ALVR on the Samsung XR after installing it, I just get what looks like a big ALVR logo on the screen with 4 spinning tiny circles under it. This screen remains there forever, or at least the over 5 minutes I was waiting for something to happen. I don't have controllers yet, but any hand gestures I tried didn't make the headset app do anything and I basically just had to get back to the OS settings and force close the app.
If it's not something that I'm doing wrong, do you plan to support the Samsung XR headset? Thanks!
We are merging support soon. Maybe we'll release this week
Amazing, thank you!
Any update on this?
Any update on this?
I've been checking in daily with this post and also code pushes lol.
Things fell through in review and I don't know when or if the support will be released soon. The only advice I have is to use the nightly releases.
Yikes.. what were the problems encountered? This was my only option to get PCVR working because I'm on Linux. :-(
@elkay Disagreement on what should be included in the release. For now the release seems to be canceled. And you're not out of luck, just use the nightly releases: https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR-nightly/releases
Ah ok cool! I got the nightly installed on the PC under Linux and the updated APK installed. Everything connects, however when launching anything I only get a black screen in the headset. If I peak out of my headset I can see the motion tracking is indeed working (I see a small portion of the game screen on the PC monitor), so the headset is definitely recognized. Audio also continues to come out of the PC speakers rather than the headset. Not sure what to look at to fix this.
And yes, I did add the launch command and verified the path is correct: /home/elkay/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/SteamVR/bin/vrmonitor.sh %command%
Follow-up: The black screen issue doesn't seem to be Samsung-XR specific. Took a few minutes to get my Quest 3 back connected under Linux and it's having the black screen issue too, so probably not related to the XR itself. Once I have the black screen resolved I'll report back if the XR is also fixed and working.
I added my comments to this thread since it seems to be the same issue. I'm using an Nvidia GPU.

Fixed the black screen issue, see the thread I linked! Up and running on the Samsung VR (minus audio but I can tinker with that).
Audio also fixed - just had to select output/input from Linux OS settings after getting everything up and running. Looks like it auto switches now when I launch so it was a 1 time thing. Fully up and running now, thank you!
I can confirm ALVR works on the XR! However I'm not getting any hand tracking. I checked the options in ALVR and SteamVR, there doesn't seem much to setup. So not sure what's going wrong here?

Oh! Is there supposed to be hand tracking? My controllers haven't come in yet so I was assuming I would have to wait for those. I was just able to launch a few games that have "busy" title screens and see that from a video rendering perspective things are great. Didn't actually get to play yet since my controller order was delayed until January like a lot of other people.
Yeah I think handtracking SHOULD work (it doesnt). Maybe @zmerp knows about this?
Still no hand tracking ...
I don't own the headset. The support was implemented by @shinyquagsire23
