Steam VR keeps disabling all add-ons including alvr
I can't use alvr because steam vr keeps saying that steamvr crashed when it just restarted and if i try to enable anything but alvr they stay on
Hello, you need to check your settings in ALVR, when you max out some of the settings SteamVR will reset or not launch at all. Mention your settings and your config.
Its all default settings in alvr also in steam vr
it works in ALVR v21.0.0-dev10+nightly.2025.09.20 but not the ALVR v20.14.1
New user and install of ALVR using the launcher. SteamVR crashes on startup every time when the ALVR driver is enabled. Version v20.14.1 of ALVR installed.
Removed the alvr_server driver for V20.14.1 and then installed version v21.0.0-dev10+nightly.2025.10.07, however crashes remain.
I've tried the 3 latest nightly versions and the 2 latest releases and all versions I tried crash steamVR whenever I install the add-on. I still have not found a way to get this working

I have the fix for you, SteamVR disabled the add-ons..there is a setting in ALVR that affected SteamVR and caused it to behave like this. In ALVR make sure you turned on foveated setting (it is a MUST), then the resolution should be sth accepted to your config, start with the default resolution of Quest 3 2064x2208 both for the emulated and transcoding resolution in ALVR. Next, you have to enable the add-ons again in SteamVR. Quit SteamVR, quit ALVR, and quit ADBForwarder (I hope you know that you have to use it otherwise you will never be able to use ALVR, you can download ADBForwarder from Github, it is made by AtlasTheProto). Now you have done all these steps, you open task manager in windows, and in process tab write adb and kill and adb process. Also make sure you installed alvr_client_android.apk in Quest 3, everything must be the same version from the ALVR downloaded link. Perfect, now follow the order of operation in order, I use a 3d party link cable, so: 1- Connect your Quest 3 with the link cable and connect it to your PC 2- launch ADBForwarder, (nothing to do here) 3- Open ALVR, take a look at the settings, take care of the two settings i mentioned above, in link cable I use 300 MB/S bitrate in HEVC 4- In ALVR, at the top click on Launch SteamVR put-on your Quest 3 and make sure if ALVR didn't launch the alvr_client_android.apk in Quest 3 that you launch the app yourself.
By the way, another secret, there is a driver in Steam called Oasis_Driver_for_Windows_Mixed_Reality, please do install it and enable it in SteamVR, so basically my add-ons in SteamVR are Oasis driver and OpenXR.
