Show & Tell: Add Accreditation Badge

Open ACA30 opened this issue 1 year ago • 4 comments

Describe your changes

Resolves #738. With more and more people submitting Show & Tells from zoos - this adds the option for people to mark their submission as an accredited zoo to display a badge.

For now, the badge links to the AZA about us page, but we could consider building our own page that's more generic, listing some of the larger accrediting bodies for zoos & aquariums, and why it's an important accreditation.

@ACA30 is attempting to deploy a commit to the Alveus Team on Vercel.

A member of the Team first needs to authorize it.

🤔 Is this something that Maya/Alveus staff asked for on a stream?

I'm trying to understand the want for this? I understand folks are posting more posts about Zoos, but I'm not sure why we need a dedicated badge for it? It seems like this adds a lot more moderation overhead to make sure that any post using this is actually from an accredited zoo now? It also doesn't really seem to cater to the international audience?

We did try to review all zoo posts in the last show and tells and add a "mod comment" if the text did not say anything about AZA.

My concern is more on the posters side, since they get the burden to check before posting, increasing the barrier to post, while we would ideally still need to check them.

Regarding the international accreditations, I think we could just accept the local XAZA (WAZA etc.), but we would need to vet with Maya if she is comfortable with that. We do not really know if standards are comparable, even if the are "sister" organizations.

Yeah, this is specifically what I noticed is there were a significant number of mod comments clarifying that zoos were AZA accredited, so I figured a mechanism like this could be a slightly less burdensome & more consistent way to portray that information.

This is true, but it could also make sure people are more mindful about ensuring the zoos they are visiting are actually accredited.

This was basically the intention, but I 100% agree it should be checked w/ Maya and perhaps the way it's implemented could be reconsidered to cater more to the international audience.

Ultimately, of course implementing this feature is totally up to you - if mod comments are the best way forward, that's a great option as well.

@ACA30 Thank you for the PR again, but I think we will just use mod comments for now. As discussed above we do not see the benefits outweigh the problems.
