I've mentioned Alpaca Markets multiple times to folks online and when they hear that Alpaca doesn't support options they lose interest.
Please!
I'm currently developing a mobile trading app powered by the Alpaca API. If I found out options wouldn't be supported for some time, I would switch to another API.

is there a plan to make trading options available in the near future?
We want options trading! Pretty please with sugar on top.
This unfortunately is a deal breaker for my application :/
Has anyone found an API that supports option trading? I love Alpaca, but it seems like the market I'm interested in has a lot of option traders.
Tradier looks like it might be good, but it’s 35¢ per contract. There are unofficial robinhood apis like fast_arrow
any updates on that?
I'm going to be using Tradier and the Robinhood private API, Hitoshi has mentioned to me that options are on their backlog of features to add, but apparently they have alot of other problems to solve before they get to that point.
If they added options they would blow up... all the memes...
Yep options is their only short coming.

Please add options trading!
This ticket is more than three years old, so at this point it seems obvious that if Alpaca haven't done it yet they'll never do it, it isn't as if retail options trading is a difficult thing. That said, I'll add my request for index options: SPX, RUT, NDX, etc.

@bitbugprime Fwiw, you can use Tradier or even TDAmeritrade to trade options algorithmically.

I'm using ETrade right now, Tradier is a non-starter because they don't have portfolio margin. Even if Alpaca does start options trading their lack of portfolio margin for equities suggests they also won't have it for options, which puts them in the same category as Tradier.
https://github.com/alpacahq/Alpaca-API/issues/4#issuecomment-1054524017 for TDA you can use https://github.com/huskly/tda-wsjson-client
+1 on portfolio margin as @bitbugprime says.
Just as an update for those that may not have been aware: Paper trading options is now available for select users.
