IDs longer than 50 characters

The documentation for IBloblStorage says that an ArgumentException is "Thrown when ID is too long. Long IDs are the ones longer than 50 characters". However, I don't see this being done in the code for the two types I checked. Indeed, this would be a severe limitation. I think some clarification is needed.
