Dear all!
Great stuff you have! Some additional suggestions from my side...
Please, have a look at https://github.com/gunnersson and, to be more precise, at https://github.com/gunnersson/my_Mozilla_settings !
That's my repo and project. There's no intention of bad rivalry, but just good competition by me. In fact, there are many users and repos at GitHub of similar idea and content.
But it would be my intention to bring them all a bit together for sharing and collecting.
Maybe, in this way Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird could be a real joy for many people...
Thank you and kind regards,
Gunner
Of course it is neither rivalry nor competition. I learned about some of the features for the website in such lists. Feel free to add yours to the Wiki here. Btw. didn't we work together here, some time ago?
But I currently have little time to collect settings and big settings dumps aren't useful for me until I have the time to write a settings file with nice description and help text and choose a category and possibly a profile.
The default profile further should stay simple, so the user can create a profile in 5 minutes and not a 5 hours, but other profiles are possible and I would really like a "everything you can think of" profile.
If you want to contribute directly, read how to contribute settings, else just add your address to the long list in the wiki. This is a good place for sharing and collecting and if somebody has the time to create some settings files from them, we know the url ;-).
Dear @allo-
Yes, both of us have already had some communication in the past. I have contributed to your wiki (in the past), too.
I like your repo and project very much. Thank you.
I have noticed that there are many users and repos at GitHub doing a similar job on Mozilla settings. I tried to say hello to them and build connections some time ago (maybe, you remember). Happened nothing much than just the communication between you and me at that time. So, it now was time for a new round.
Well, what I could contribute (and I just put it here) is more or less the existence of https://github.com/ghacksuserjs and https://github.com/ghacksuserjs/ghacks-user.js which is very professional and content rich. Good job there. (Can you please add it to your wiki.)
And https://github.com/pyllyukko as well as https://github.com/pyllyukko/user.js you probably already know.
I think, those 2 and you are the best at GitHub for Mozilla settings (at least what I have found so far).
I just still run my repo/project because I (personally) use it at my IT.
There is another project to add to your list: https://github.com/Genbox/HardenIT And our idea to specify a common format (which neither of the projects is using, yet): https://github.com/allo-/userjs-schema
I wish people would contribute to the userjs-schema repo if needed and then specify their settings in the final format. Then everyone could parse it, if with python here, with C# for HardenIT or a shell script generating a prefs.js does not matter.
But there isn't much work together and efford to bundle this between different people collecting settings currently.
Hey, https://github.com/Genbox/HardenIT and https://harden.it/ is nice. Thank you for the hint.
Well, the settings seem to be derived from https://github.com/pyllyukko and https://github.com/pyllyukko/user.js (as mentioned already above) and the GUI is in competition to yours... :-)
What I really like at https://github.com/ghacksuserjs and https://github.com/ghacksuserjs/ghacks-user.js is the impression of scientific work: rather up to date and many comments.
I do not see this as competition. I created the project, because I wanted a fast way to configure new profiles with some settings. If somebody else creates another cool generator I am okay with it. Btw. seems now to be JS only?
Well, with competition I don't mean really contest, but just different idea and approach (which every one is following and trying his/her best).
