Stopping automatic mode change?

I could be doing things wrong - but TCA will regularly change modes without my input. For instance - I use the Level mode to keep my rovers semi-stable on low-gravity worlds. But it will regularly change to "Stop" or "Auto" mode after uncertain circumstances.
