How to detect changes of submodules?

My application has one or more submodule dependencies. If only those change, the axion plugin obviously won't detect those changes and won't create a new release.

Is there any way to detect those as well?

My idea was to have something like foldersToInclude = ['../submodule1', '../submodule2'] /
