Instead of creating a device.map it could be generated from `devices` in a vm config, then written into a temporary file removed after grub-bhyve is done. Parsing type would allow...
Now that jq is left behind, I see no reason to parse as valid JSON. I'd personally prefer optional quoting (when spaces matter) and always optimise for readability.
