Standalone doesn't seem to include package path for MT32 roms?

perhaps i've just missed this hiding in plain sight, but the standalone app will still only look in the application support folder to find MT32 roms? which means you can't build a standalone with MT32 support really the game can't know if the roms are present, and editing the config is not really feasible.

Yup, that's correct and needs to be fixed. I'll add a resource path under which Boxer Standalone will look first for ROMs (before falling back on the appsupport path), along with a checkbox option in the Boxer Bundler that will bundle the ROMs into the game app if you have them installed in Boxer.
