Sensible World of Soccer - save / load error & not saving changed options
LS,
When installing the ISO of Sensible World of Soccer into Boxer, it seems that on the first start I can just save/load my tournaments/competition in game. Although when I start it a second time, I get an error on trying to load my previous competition.

And there is another issue, it's possible to change the OPTIONS, and in that menu if I change something, e.g. Menu Music off, of Replays off, it will just reset to the original settings. And that's not how it should be.
Hope you can help with this.
kind regards, Nico
Sorry for the slow response on this issue - I've just gotten back from vacation.
This sounds very much like the game has not installed correctly to the hard drive during the initial import process. It may be running directly from the CD instead of the hard drive: that would explain why your changes to the options aren't being saved and why it's not reading savegames correctly.
Did you run the game's installer during importing? Did you direct the installer to install the game to a location on drive C? Did the installation appear to copy files and complete successfully? What files are located in the C.harddisk folder inside the resulting gamebox?
This issue has come up before with SWOS96/97 with a couple of users, but I couldn't replicate the crash myself and their english wasn't good enough for me to successfully determine what had gone wrong for them. It's possible that this issue only comes up with a particular rip or a particular version of the game, and I just got lucky with the ISO I found. (Unfortunately I can't remember where I downloaded it.) If you could provide a link to where you downloaded the ISO, this would be very helpful for testing.
And a further question, which language option are you using for the game?
I recently found correspondence with a previous user which suggested these save/load crashes occur in SWOS96/97 if the game was installed in a language other than English. In their case it was Italian.
If you are experiencing this problem with your copy of SWOS, please try reinstalling it from an original CD/ISO in English (and running the english exe also, once it's installed). Let me know if the game works properly in this case, and if it then fails when switching to a different language.
Hi Alun,
Thanks for the reply. Although due to the fact that the Amiga version of this game is so much better than the PC version I have switched to Amiga Emulators for this game. So therefore I can't help you further in debugging this issue.
Since for me the Amiga emulators all work well. And it's also probably the version of Sensible Soccer fans will be playing the most. The playing field is larger, e.g. like playing in Wembley with the largest pitch or a small local pitch of the local soccer team, and the AI of the goalkeepers is much much better in the Amiga version somehow.
kind regards, Nico
This issue is not closed; regardless of the merits of the Amiga version, the crash in the PC port still affects other Boxer users, and a Boxer-specific emulation bug has not been ruled out as the culprit.
If you can provide a link to where you originally downloaded your ISO copy, then I can use that for testing and try to get to the bottom of the problem once and for all.
