why do you need : "View and manage documents that this application has been installed in" permissions?

I would say the View and manage documents permission is a must for the add-on to do it's job no? It needs to view the document content and manage/edit it to be able to do the highlighting.

I would be more concerned with these two:

  • Allow this application to run when you are not present
    • Why does it need to run when not being used?
  • See your personal info, including any personal info you've made publicly available
    • Why do you need my personal information, even if it's public to do some highlighting, what does my information have to do with syntax highlighting.
