Sync links between phone and desktop
It would be cool if the app would be able to sync the data between the Bulkshare app on the phone/tablet to a web app on a desktop/laptop. We can use an authentication system similar to Whatsapp on web (with QR codes) to avoid the need for user accounts.
@alexanderadam thoughts? I know you said in #2 that you're using Bulkshare to "collect" browser tabs.
Well QR-Codes aren't so good for this features.
- if every information should be stored in a QR code: they don't scale.
- You can use them as an identifier but that would make a host necessary. But one of the main advantages of bulkshare is that you aren't really dependend on yet another system.
For now it is possible to share data and use the transport on your own. That keeps it really simple and flexible. Do you have a particular need for this feature yourself?
This feature does not mean removing existing functionality, everything can be done on-top of sharing links through email/sms.
The remote sync server will obviously be open-source and I'll be hosting a default implementation. The mobile app will support changing the server URL. Syncing will be disabled until first access on a desktop.
My use case is syncing a specific browser tab from my phone to my desktop. Currently I use Firefox tab-sync, which tbh is quite unreliable - I have to manually start the sync on my phone. Also, once I'm on my desktop I have to filter through ~70 tabs spread across 3 devices (~20 on phone, ~40 on work laptop and ~10 on home desktop).
By using Bulkshare to do my syncing I can only share whatever URLs I want to continue reading on a bigger screen.
What about making it work with an existing sync server solution?
What sync server do you have in mind?
I don't have a particular server in mind but it may be useful not to reinvent the wheel.
Probably any, more matured, server will do.
